Suitable substrates
Untreated mineral plasters, concrete, drywalls, fibrous plasterboards.
Primer
Pre-paint all plasters, levelling compounds, filled drywall boards and concrete with KREIDEZEIT Clay Plaster Primer and allow to dry completely. Surfaces completely plastered with new clay plaster or lime-cement plaster do not need a primer but are only pre-wetted.
Mixing the clay fine plaster
Stir the powder without clots into the required amount of clean, cold water using a powerful electric drill with a paint stirrer. After an expanding time of approx. 30 minutes, stir again thoroughly.
Water required
0.20 litres of water per 1 kg of powder.
Application
Except on existing clay plaster, we recommend applying the Clay Finish Plaster always in two thin layers of at least 1.5 mm with intermediate drying. This creates very even surfaces. However, it is also possible to work in just one layer.
Apply the first coat with a Venetian trowel, smooth it slightly and allow it to dry completely. After the second coat has set, rub it with a damp sponge board. For a particularly fine surface finish and when using chopped straw, rub twice. If you rub earlier, the surface will be rougher.
For a smooth surface, after rubbing with a clean stainless steel trowel or plastic trowel, you can smooth it again. The Clay Finish Plaster can also be applied with just a trowel and smoothed a little with the trowel after setting, creating a more lively surface with trowel marks.
Do not apply a layer thickness of more than 6 mm, otherwise there is a risk of cracking.
Many other effects can be achieved with KREIDEZEIT Decorative Aggregates (see product info).
After the wall has dried (approx. 24 – 48 hours), the surface can optionally be wiped with a damp, well-wrung sponge. This removes any clay dust that is not bound in. Often, sweeping with a soft dust broom is sufficient for this.
Drying times
Dry and safe to coat after at least 24 hrs per mm of layer thickness at 20°C and a relative humidity of 65%. Lower temperatures extend the drying times.
Suitable tools
Recommended from the KREIDEZEIT range: Venetian Trowels and Spring Steel Trowel
Cleaning the Tools
Immediately after use with water.
Clay finish plaster can be tinted with up to 5% KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments (max. 50 g pigment per 1 kg plaster powder).
